What is online hate speech? What triggers online hate speech ? How to react to hate speech? These three questions will be the focus of the seminar which is divided in 3 different phases. Each seminar consists of legal and social definitions, as practiced in the EU space, of the three concepts, of observation of real data, of learning to deconstruct the data and learning what are the best ways to react and counter discriminatory speech. The public will be sensitized to this important issue, will practice critical analysis and will learn counter speech. It is open to the general public. The data which have been extracted from three recent different EU projects focused on these issues, will follow the GDPR regulations. Instructor: Prof. Fabienne Baider, Duration: 9 hours, 3 sessions, Wednesday 27/10, Friday 29/10, Saturday 30/10 (Wed & Fri, 15:00-18:00, Sat, 11:00-14:00). Certificate of attendance will be sent. Offered in English, online. Participation Fees:135€ , 135€ - 180€: -€15/hour for UCY & YUFE alumni & students, -€20/hour for individual participants of the general public (that are, external members of UCY Community, including the UCY & YUFE staff members) -€15/hour for the UCY & YUFE staff & other external members of the UCY Community, with the prerequisite of being enrolled as a group of at least 2 participants representing an entity (e.g. a university, a company, an organization).
