Profile of Programme

The general aim of the Ph.D. program is to educate and prepare researchers so to be able to study educational phenomena in the light of digital technologies. The structure of the program allows students to focus on issues related to the use of digital technologies in teaching and to acquire the necessary methodological tools to explore how education is the focal point for these issues. Additionally, other main topics of the program concern issues related to educational design using digital technology, the development of dynamic teaching and learning environments, the design and conduction of quantitative and qualitative research, as well as applications of new technologies in the design and development of educational programs.

Key Learning Outcomes

After successful completion of the program, it is expected that students will:
Acquire skills and knowledge to expand the theoretical framework and research field of Instructional Technology;
Develop skills for critical analysis of the bibliography which is related to specific research questions in the field of Instructional Technology;
Analyze and interpret the results of modern research into teaching using digital technologies;
Identify research gaps in the research on the teaching of Instructional Technology, to submit appropriate research questions and to design and implement research to answer these questions;
Familiarize themselves with qualitative and quantitative methods of educational research and gain experience of applying these methods to collect and analyze data;
Propose future research directions in Instructional Technology;
Improve, apply and teach theoretical knowledge and approaches in the field of Instructional Technology;
Participate in public debates on issues related to educational policy and reform through Instructional Technology.

Students can register in PhD Research Stage or PhD Thesis Writing Stage during the Fall or Spring or Summer Semester.

Conditions of Study

The number of places available are announced by the Graduate School with the eligibility criteria for candidates, as well as other required documents that must be attached to the application such as:
Bachelor’s degree from a recognised University.
Previous University education in a suitable subject (academic background) and grades of relevant degrees.
Letters of recommendation.
Personal interview and/or written examination (if provided by the Department’s internal rules).
Submission of preliminary research proposal for admission to a doctoral course (if provided by the Department’s internal rules).
The Department may also set additional criteria and quality indicators such as: (a) number of students’ publications in scientific journals, (b) students’ participation in seminars, symposia, research programmes, (c) presentations by students at conferences, (d) knowledge of foreign languages, and (e) professional experience, etc.

Successful completion of the requirements of the Program
Up to 60 ECTS may be exempted from postgraduate courses.

The diploma dissertation, thesis, research and writing stages are graded with Success / Failure. The final grade of the dissertation is registered in the last semester of its elaboration. The doctoral dissertation is graded as Success or Failure.
