Course Purpose and Objectives: The main purpose of this course is for students to become well-acquainted with a specific subject matter as well as with various scientific methods and techniques.
The main course objectives include:
1. To be able to describe the current state and the most recent advances in a specific field using relevant, discipline-specific terminology with precision, accuracy and purpose
2. To be able to effectively present advanced scientific concepts through written work and oral presentations
3. To effectively incorporate critiques from peers and faculty in their revision of
written and oral communication
 
Learning Outcomes: • Acquiring an adequate and critical understanding on a specific topic of interest in Molecular Biology
• Analytical reading of peer-reviewed publications on this topic, to become well acquainted with the current state of the field
• Expanding their knowledge on traditional, as well as state of the art techniques and scientific methods, employed in the field
• Writing a structured, referenced literature review
• Acquiring presentation skills
 
Prerequisites: To have completed ALL other courses of their Master’s Degree

Course Content:
Students acquire deep knowledge and understanding of a specific field of interest in Molecular Biology. They are also trained to think critically, analyse and present peer-reviewed research papers and reviews on a specialized topic within this field. In addition, this course involves acquisition of scientific writing skills, as the students are required to write a structured, referenced literature review, using original publications.

 
Teaching Methodology: Lectures and Group Discussions
One on one advising for writing of their literature review
 
Bibliography: Peer reviewed publications and reviews  
Assessment: Submission of the following
1. Outline of referenced literature review (5%)
2. First and Final Draft of referenced literature review (35%)
Analysis and Presentation of peer-reviewed articles (10%)
Presentation of their own review (50%)
